The little girl and the Wolf

One afternoon a big wolf waited in a dark forest for a little girl to come along carrying a basket of food to her grandmother. Finally a little girl did come along and she was carrying a basket of food. 'Are you carrying that basket to your grandmother?' asked the wolf. The little girl said yes, she was. So the wolf asked her where her grandmother lived and the little girl told him and he disappeared into the wood.
When the little girl opened the door of her grandmother's house she saw that there was somebody in bed with a nightcap and a night gown on. She had approached no nearer than twenty-five feet from the bed when she saw that it was not her grandmother but the wolf, for even in a nightcap a wolf does not look any more like your grandmother. So the little girl took an automatic out of her basket and shot the wolf dead.
Moral: It is not so easy to fool little girls nowadays as it used to be.

Appliances turn cooking oil into fuel and fills up the car.

From the stove to the tank.
No, we're not talking about the routine of a busy housewife. It is about turning cooking oil into fuel and fill up the own car in the garage. The device, which seems to be a professional vacuum cleaner like those used in car washes, takes approximately two hours to process the material. The processor is designed by  Adrian Henson and can convert up to 50 liters of cooking oil into biodiesel. The result of the process can be used in any conventional diesel engine. The investment is not very cheap, about US$ 4 995. But the company promises a cost of only 70 dollar cents per gallon.
British citizens can produce up to 2500 liters per year, legally, without paying any fee. "This allowed the rapid growth of this market.
The raw material may come from the restaurants and snack bars around.

"With a little help from my friends"

This incredible song "With a little help from my friends" was written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon especially for Ringo  ( The Beatles’ drummer) to sing. Ringo wasn’t a very good singer, which explains the references to sing out of key. It has been recorded by many other singers including Joe Cocker and Wet, Wet, Wet.

Let's do the following exercise and sing afterwards!

1)      Match a question in A with a phrase from the song in B.

A
1(  ) what happened when Romeo and Juliet met the first time?
2(  ) Why are you looking so sad?
3(  ) What do you do before you go to sleep?
4(  ) How did you paint your flat?
5(  ) How often do men talk about football?
6(  ) What would you not like to be when you are old?
7(  ) When can you finish the work for me?
8(  ) What do people do when a national anthem is played?
9(  ) What happened to you at the karaoke night?
10(  ) Whose is this jacket?

B

a)        My love is away
b)        Stand up
c)         All the time
d)        By the end of the day
e)        It’s mine
f)         With a little help from my friends
g)        I sang out of tune
h)        To be alone
i)          Turn out the light
j)          love at first sight

2)      Read the lyrics of the song with the glossary and then listen to it.
With A Little Help from My Friends

What would you think if I sang out of tune?
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song,
And I'll try not to sing out of key.
(Chorus)
Oh I get by with a little help from my friends,
hm I get high with a little help from my friends,
hm I’m gonna try with a little help from my friends.

What do I do when my love is away?
Does it worry you to be alone?
How do I feel by the end of the day?
Are you sad because you're on your own?
(Chorus)

Do you need anybody?
I need somebody to love.
Could it be anybody?
I want somebody to love.

Would you believe in a love at first sight?
Yes I'm certain that it happens all the time.
What do you see when you turn out the light?
I can't tell you, but I know it's mine.
(Chorus)

3)      Now cover the song and look at the phrases a – j . Can you remember the rest of each line?

Glossary
(sing) out of tune = sing badly
(sing) out of key = sing badly

Walk out on = leave
Get by = survive, manage
Gonna = going to

Ronaldo retires

Leia o texto e faça as atividades propostas.

Ronaldo ends career
The soccer world lost a little of its magic: Ronaldo confirmed his retirement today at the age of 34. The Brazilian Legend has decided to hang up his boots due to injuries and a loss of fitness  The Corinthians striker announced his decision at a press conference in São Paulo. “I'm stopping my career as a professional soccer player. It's been a beautiful, emotional, marvellous career.
These last two years, I've had a long series of injuries, from one side to the other, one leg to the other, one muscle to the other. The pain pushed me to think about the end of my career”, he said.         Ronaldo had a brilliant career, helping Brazil win two World Cups and being named Fifa World Player of the Year in 1996, 1997 and 2002.  He has played for Brazil in 97 matches, scoring 62 gols.
