O simple past é um dos tempos verbais mais simples. Os verbos no simple past são empregados para indicar uma ação completamente terminada no passado ou uma ocorrência habitual de ações no passado.
- Para formar uma sentença nesse tempo verbal, basta flexionarmos o verbo principal na forma do passado.
- Nos casos de verbos regulares, basta acrescentarmos o sufixo –ed.
Ex: I lived in Brazil for two years.
- Nos casos dos verbos irregulares conjugações diversas devem ser memorizadas.
Ex: I saw a movie yesterday.
Caso queiramos fazer uma sentença negativa ou interrogativa, devemos utilizar o verbo auxiliar “did”. No entanto, a diferença é que o verbo não será flexionado.
Ex: He didn't play the piano.
No caso interrogativo, coloca-se o verbo auxiliar antes do sujeito:
Ex: Did you play soccer?
